Richard Longdon received engineering training in the defence industry and then gained experience in the project management of high-value engineering projects. He moved into sales and held a series of international sales and marketing positions. He joined AVEVA in 1984 and shortly afterwards was made Marketing Manager for the process products. In January 1992, he relocated to Frankfurt where he was responsible for setting up and running the Group's German office. He returned to the UK as part of the management buyout team in 1994, taking responsibility for the Group's worldwide sales and marketing activities, before being appointed Managing Director in May 1999. He took over as Group Chief Executive in December 1999.
Costas PantelidesManaging Director
Costas Pantelides has been the Managing Director of PSE since 2005. He was one of the original founders of the company, and has also served as its Technology Director since the establishment of the company in 1997.
Costas holds B.Sc.(Eng.) and PhD degrees from Imperial College London and an MS degree from MIT. He is the author of over 100 scientific papers on the design and implementation of general-purpose process modelling tools, numerical methods for large-scale simulation and optimisation, and molecular modelling. He is currently also a part-time professor of Chemical Engineering at Imperial.
Costas has more than 25 years' experience in process modelling technology, having played a leading role in the development of the gPROMS® and SPEEDUP technologies. His contributions to process systems engineering were honoured by the 1998 Beilby Medal and Prize, awarded jointly by the UK Society of Chemical Industry, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Materials. In 2007, he led the winning team for the Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award, the UK's most prestigious prize for engineering innovation.
Brian McKenzieFinance Director
Brian McKenzie joined Process Systems Enterprise as Finance Director in February 2011 after more than 15 years' experience in technology, media and finance. Prior to joining PSE, Brian spent 4 years as CFO at Innovision Research and Technology plc, an AIM listed "fabless" semiconductor company where he was part of the team that focussed the strategy, grew and enhanced the customer base and sold the company to Broadcom Inc at a significant premium to market.
Brian trained as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young and worked in the London audit practice before joining AEA Technology plc to help it through the privatisation process. From AEAT, he joined process simulation software provider, Hyprotech, as CFO based in Calgary. On his watch, Hyprotech grew strongly before it was acquired by AspenTech. Returning to the UK, Brian joined Noel Edmonds' Unique Group in an operational role concentrating on growing, funding and selling media and technology interests before moving to Innovision.
Brian has an MA in Philosophy from St John's College, Cambridge and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales. He is married with three children.
Mark MatzopoulosMarketing Director
Mark Matzopoulos is PSE's Marketing Director and Deputy MD. He played a leading role in PSE's initial development and growth and currently has executive responsibility for business strategy and marketing, including development of new business and application areas. He has a chemical engineering degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and has over 30 years' experience in the industrial application of simulation and modelling to the process industries. Prior to joining PSE Mark ran his own consultancy companies focused on dynamic simulation and operator training within a range of sectors from oil & gas to food & beverage. He was a member of the winning team for the Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award, the UK's most prestigious prize for engineering innovation, and is a mentor for the Cambridge Judge Business School's MBA programme.
Bernie WaldronNon-Executive Director
Bernie has more than 25 years' international non-executive and executive leadership experience. During his executive career, Bernie worked in Copenhagen as Executive Chairman of the Maersk Data Group, a group of 4000 employees across 30 companies. Prior to that he ran IBM's Industrial Sector division for Europe, Middle East and Africa. In the late 1990s, at the height of the tech stock boom, Bernie was Director of Corporate Strategy based at IBM's global New York headquarters.
His current responsibilities include being a Non-Executive Director of Digital Barriers plc, the surveillance technology specialist, of IPPLUS plc, who provide software and services for Contact Centres and of the Venture Partnership Foundation, who support rapidly growing entrepreneurial charities. Bernie is also an Associate of Criticaleye, the Network for Leaders. He is an experienced coach, mentor and board advisor, with clients across private and public organisations of a variety of sizes In the recent past he was also a Non-Executive Director of Kneip, a Luxembourg-based service provider to the global investment fund industry, and a Visiting Professor of Leadership and Corporate Governance at Cass Business School.
Bernie has an MA in Mathematics from Churchill College, Cambridge. He is married with three teenage sons and is enthusiastically involved in most sports, where possible as a participant, but increasingly as a spectator.
Robert Whitby-SmithNon-Executive Director
Robert Whitby-Smith is a partner of Albion Capital LLP. Albion Capital LLP is a leading independent investment manager with a long-term record of backing change and growth. The wider Albion Group has funds of £950 million under investment management or administration. The Albion team invests anywhere between £250,000 and £12 million into high growth businesses. Robert currently serves on the boards of a number of b2b software businesses including Convertr, Elateral, Grapeshot and OmPrompt.
