Fuel cell stack modelling
Fuel cell basic cell model
Cell stack composed of many individual cell models
The AML:FC single-cell model can be combined in many different ways to form a detailed 2 or 3-dimensional model of a fuel cell or fuel cell stack.

Power and flexibility
The AML:FC allows virtually any configuration of cell or stack to be modelled to any level of detail.
Once a basic model of the cell has been constructed and validated, the stack model is constructed by combining models of single cells joined by the appropriate electrical connection elements. Parameterised top-level stack models (SOFC_stack and PEM_stack) simplify the task.
The stack model allows the user to choose between a 2D and 3D representation of the model as well as different channel configurations for fuel, air and cooling channels.
This approach facilitates accurate representation of the stack that is modelled and the possibilities to test a wide range of design options.
For dealing with complex geometries, the AML:FC–FLUENT Hybrid Modelling Interfacecan be deployed. This combines the power of gPROMS's fast and robust solution for the electrode assembly with ANSYS FLUENT's® ability to model fluid flow and heat conduction in complex geometries.
