PSE Annual Meeting 2010
15-17 September 2010
Optional gPROMS workshops
The workshops provide an in-depth look at techniques and features within gPROMS. They are aimed at users who wish to increase their knowledge of gPROMS's powerful capabilities, including new features of gPROMS v3.3.
Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 13:30 for attendees of morning and afternoon events. Please note that the events list and timings may change depending on demand. You do not necessarily have to decide which workshops to attend on initial registration; you can add these later if preferred.

Workshop 1: Creating library models for other users within the organisation |
|
From gPROMS v3.0 onwards it has been possible to create specification dialogues and reports that make it much easier for non-modellers (for example, flowsheeting users) to use models created by modelling experts. The small investment of time required to 'publish' models in this way can improve productivity all round.
This 2.5–hour workshop provides step-by-step hands-on experience in publishing models for use by other users across the organisation – for example, process engineers or control engineers.
Who should attend:
gPROMS modelling experts who write models that are used by others in the organisation or who wish to improve the usability of their own models. |
| Duration: Half day (morning) |
Cost: £100 (or £85 if two workshops taken) |
|
Workshop 2: Model initialisation |
|
New initialisation capabilities within gPROMS can significantly simplify the process of obtaining an initial converged result. This makes it possible for expert modellers to provide process engineers with 'run-first-time' models of complex process units, for use in flowsheeting, control design and other process engineering activities.
Initialisation procedures capture expert modellers' experience in procedural form within the model in a way that provides guaranteed initial convergence from many different starting points. Proper use can significantly increase the robustness of the models over a range of conditions.
This workshop provides detailed instruction in the implementation of initialisation procedures within models.
Who should attend:
gPROMS modelling experts who write models that are used by others in the organisation or who wish to improve the usability of their own models. |
| Duration: Half day (afternoon) |
Cost: £100 (or £85 if two workshops taken) |
|
Workshop 3: Parameter estimation tips & tricks |
|
gPROMS is widely used for estimating parameters from experiment data. However estimating multiple parameters from large amounts of data can present challenges. This workshop elaborates on the basic capabilities, provides guidelines on how to interpret results and provides tips for best practice.
Who should attend:
gPROMS users familiar with parameter estimation but who would like to understand more about the methods available and typical techniques used. |
| Duration: Half day (morning) |
Cost: £100 (or £85 if two workshops taken) |
