gCRYSTAL is a powerful and user-friendly tool for engineers and scientists that uses high-fidelity predictive models, validated with experimental or operating data, to support design and operational decisions.

This free seminar describes how gCRYSTAL can be used for optimising the design and operation of batch and continuous processes.  Attendees will be able to gain hands-on experience and will be offered evaluation licences.

Agenda

Note that this agenda is subject to change.

Seminar – gCRYSTAL

An integrated framework for model-based design and operation of crystallisation processes

12:30–13:30 Lunch & registration
13:30 Start

SESSION 1 – gCRYSTAL – an overview

  • Scope and overview
  • Underlying principles
  • Graphical flowsheeting environment
  • Links to CFD
  • Future development plans

SESSION 2 – Application

Case study 1: Model validation for a crystallisation process.
Given data from multiple experiments, estimate model parameters for nucleation, growth agglomeration and attrition.

Case study 2: Optimisation of process operation.
For a batch cooling crystallisation process, determine what the optimal cooling profile is that will lead to the shortest batch time while maintaining product quality.

Case study 3: Quantify risk associated with scale-up of a crystallisation process.
Given a model validated using lab-scale data, determine the risk associated in scale-up with respect to uncertainty in model parameters.

14:50–15:10 Refreshments

SESSION 4 – Hands-on session

Hands-on experience in configuring and executing a crystallisation model and simulating several cases

SESSION 5 – Wrap-up

  • Summary
  • Evaluation approaches
  • Comments and feedback (discussion)
16:30 Finish
