PSE will host the 2012 Advanced Process Modelling Forum, the world's premier event focused on creating sustainable value in the process industries through the application of high-accuracy predictive modelling, in London on 18 and 19 April 2012.

Ravi Shanker, Senior Research Fellow at Pfizer, joins Jan van Schijndel, Manager of XTL Development at Shell as joint keynote speakers for the Life Sciences and Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals sessions respectively.

Other companies presenting include GSK, Eli Lilly, SABIC, SASOL, Süd-Chemie and Sulzer Chemtech, who will describe how model-based engineering and innovation techniques help them to make better, faster and safer design and operating decisions by reducing uncertainty.

Research organisations TNO, Rutgers University and Imperial College London will describe some of the latest developments in this rapidly-evolving technology.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND AND WHY?

The two-day meeting is aimed at senior business and technology managers and modelling personnel with an interest in the application of Advanced Process Modelling to create sustainable value in their organisations.

It will focus on how the technology is delivering previously-untapped value in the chemicals, life sciences and energy sectors, as well as bringing new levels of safety to oil & gas operations.

By attending you will learn how your peers across the process industries are using key emerging technology to transform process design and operations, support and accelerate innovation and manage technology risk.

Programme

The main event programme includes the following:

Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 April – presentation days

Two days of presentations from industry-leading companies and research organisations. Highlights include:

  • Shell's approach to economic optimisation of large-scale gas-to-liquid (GTL) processes, based on experience from the Qatar Pearl development
  • SABIC's developments with PSE for optimisation of steam cracker operations
  • SASOL's application of laboratory-to-industrial plant modelling for techno-economic optimisation during the technology development lifecycle for large-scale new processes
  • Pfizer's developments in Systems-based Pharmaceutics, a revolutionary new approach that has the potential to change the way that pharmaceutical companies design and manufacture
  • The Rutgers University ERC-SOPS consortium's developments in dynamic simulation of solids processes to aid pharmaceuticals Quality-by-Design (QbD)
  • The Energy Technologies Institute's investment in a multi-mullion pound carbon capture and storage (CCS) system-wide modelling project involving E.ON, EDF, Rolls-Royce and PSE
  • Süd Chemie's laboratory-to-industrial plant modelling approaches to optimise catalyst performance for methanol production.

There will also be a number of presentations from PSE. Highlights here include:

  • Recent SAFT-γ developments in gSAFT advanced thermodynamics that provide unprecedented accuracy in thermodynamic predictions with little or no data
  • PSE's second-generation developments for solids processing and crystallisation, where the company's gSOLIDS and gCRYSTAL products are leading the way
  • Optimal design of high-performance and novel reactors utilising laboratory-to-detailed-design techniques
  • the launch of PSE Oil & Gas, with a showcase of recent Advanced Process Modelling applications for safety and enhanced operations.

Additional optional events include:

Tuesday 17 April – optional workshops

Friday 20 April – Oil & Gas seminar; individual meetings

  • a seminar on using Advanced Process Modelling techniques to enhance Oil & Gas safety and operations.
  • a range of individual meetings (by appointment).

We look forward to seeing you there!
