Customers
Whom do we work with and why?
PSE's customers comprise many of the largest companies in the world.
A majority are from the "conventional" process industries – chemicals, petrochemicals, refining – where process simulation and modelling have been established for many years.
To these companies we bring a step-change in the technology available to develop, design, optimise and innovate.
However there are also a number from industries that have not been well-served by modelling tools in the past, such as consumer goods, food, pharma, power generation, cement, minerals & mining.
To these we bring the new and significant advantage of being able to make complex design and operating decisions based on accurate quantification.
In addition there are the emerging major areas of the future, such as clean energy. To these companies we bring accelerated innovation, faster time-to-market and new ways of managing technology risk.
"Modelling-rich" organisations
To large process organisations with internal modelling departments, we provide state-of-the-art software tools, assistance in building modelling expertise, new cost-effective methodologies for innovation and risk management and systematic development of your in-house modelling capabilities.
Benefits: take maximum advantage of current modelling technology to generate a wide range of commercial benefits.
Process organisations without central modelling divisions
To companies without central modelling organisations we provide turnkey project work in close collaboration with business and operations divisions to deliver value in the form of enhanced production or reduced costs.
We also assist with systematic development of in-house modelling capabilities where this is an objective. we do this through well-defined training, education and mentoring programmes coupled with real project work that delivers value at the same time.
Corporate or independent R&D centres
As well as state-of-the-art software tools, we provide guidance in methodologies such as process scale-up, model-based innovation, model-based data analysis, model-based experiment design, the integration of experimentation and engineering design, and many more aspects from our experience in applying these techniques.
Equally important, we provide guidance on the experimental procedures for maximising the predictive accuracy of models over a range of scales.
Corporate or independent Engineering centres
Apart from providing tools (in the form of the gPROMS family software) for Engineering departments, we also provide a range of services to complement and support engineering activities.
These include project support, guidelines on implementation of Model-Based Engineering techniques and methodologies, implementation of physical property methods, as well as systematic development and maintenance of libraries specific to your domain.
Process developers
PSE works closely with process licensors and owner/operators to develop their process technology, generating and capturing IP for patenting and to establish competitive advantage.
Besides our standard offering of tools and methodologies we provide a high level of domain expertise in many process areas that can help effect a step-change in technology.
Technology developers
PSE works closely with companies developing new technologies. For example, most of the world's leading fuel cell developers use PSE's gPROMS and our fuel cell models.
Catalytic technology provides such as Süd-Chemie use gPROMS for optimizing new catalyst designs and evaluating the expected catalyst performance using high-fidelity models.
Model-based innovation techniques help to accelerate innovation and reduce development cost, thus reducing time to market. At the same time it provides a means to manage technology risk effectively through accurate quantification of design choices.
Production and operations departments
We work closely with production and operations departments in improving and optimizing process and plant performance, typically as part of plant revamps for debottlenecking or improving product quality.
We also provide, for example, execution-only models running behind custom interfaces that can be used in the operations room for day-to-day production planning and performance optimization.
Business departments
We work closely with customer businesses to deliver key business objectives – for example, productivity, profitability, return-on-investment (ROI) or return-on-capital-employed (ROCE) and similar goals.
Key to this is our customer technology assessment, which performs a detailed audit on the way that model-based engineering and model-based innovation techniques can most cost effectively be applied to improve business performance.
EPCs and Consultants
Many EPC and design consultants find it a challenge to sustain dedicated in-house modelling teams.
PSE performs turnkey or client-managed projects such as safety studies, blowdown (depressurisation) analyses, compressor studies, and other steady-state and dynamic simulation project work.
